Chocolate Might Be Healthy For Your Brain

DigestacureAccording to a recent article in Forbes, chocolate might have more benefits then we realize. Everybody has their own opinions on the addictive substance that you can’t get enough of. Some people believe one piece of chocolate a day can be good for you like a single glass of red wine. A recent study from a Harvard team came across and interesting development. Over a period of a month they had 60 elderly people drink a solution that was comprised of cocoa. They performed simple memory tests before hand and once the month concluded they did the same tests again to compare. What they discovered was blood flow to the brains of the participants increased by 8% and the time it took them to complete a memory test decreased from 167 seconds to 116 seconds.
Quoted from the article, “These results are nothing if not enticing, and they do support earlier evidence that cocoa’s benefits may stem from its capacity to improve blood flow to the brain, which uses a whopping 20% of the body’s energy, while only accounting for 2% of its weight. In other words, the brain is quite a needy organ, energetically speaking, so any improvement in blood flow could be reflected in cognition.”
It is amazing that such a loved treat in chocolate could possibly be healthy for you. Although in large quantities the sugar and additives in chocolate can be unhealthy, but cocoa, one of the main components, can be quite healthy potentially. So don’t shy away too much from the addictive substance. The saying “everything in moderation” can definitely be true when talking about chocolate. Just don’t eat candy bar after candy bar, but a little bite here and there and you’ll be fine.
