Healthy Summer Foods

DigestacureSummertime is in full swing. The sun is shinning, people are swimming and BBQs are blazing. Instead of thinking about the cold icy beer you could be having, it might be smarter to think about what food you should be eating. A recent article in Huffpost Living talks about certain healthy fruits that one can enjoy all summer long. Eating fruiting can help keep you healthy, energized and hydrated all summer long. ”These summer fruits not only taste great, but they also provide your body with water and a combination of nutrition, keeping your body healthy and happy.” Dehydration is very common especially when the weather is much warmer during the humid summer months. This doesn’t necessarily mean people aren’t drinking enough water, but it also can be attributed to an improper diet. So sometimes the best way to help combat dehydration is to simply eat!
One fruit that will help quench thirst and provide fluids to your body is watermelon. The fruit is a great source of Vitamin A and C and can even help protect your skin from the sun with the carotene lycopene. Another fruit that can be very helpful and delicious are berries. Most berries are high in antioxidants, which can “promote increased blood flow to your skin and decrease your sensitivity to light to improve your skin’s appearance, structure and texture.” Who would have thought that berries could be so great for the skin! A simple orange can give you that boost in hydration as well. Oranges are 80% water and rich in potassium. They can also help prevent muscles cramps while providing essential nutrients.
So the next time you are thinking about eating some food when you are out on the beach or looking to go for run in hot weather, consider fruit as an option. Fruits provide water, vitamins and essential nutrients and are a better alternative to other foods.
