Surprisingly Healthy Foods

DigestacureAccording to an article on Yahoo, there are some foods that many people are ignoring when it comes to being healthy.
The first food is iceberg lettuce. Iceberg of course doesn’t have all the nutritional value that romaine or spinach holds, but it does provide certain benefits to your health. Iceberg lettuce is a good source of fiber and is very low in calories, while also providing water for hydration purposes. It is also very cheap so it won’t make much of an impact on your weekly or monthly grocery bill.
The second common food that is often overlooked are potatoes. They are a great source of complex carbohydrates and are also very cheap. Potatoes happen to be the greatest source of potassium in the American diet. One reason why potatoes might be seen as unhealthy is because of french fries. Fries are very much unhealthy because they are fried in oil. A natural potato that hasn’t been fried but baked can be healthy especially if you don’t dress it with cheese, sour cream and bacon.
Peanuts are another healthy alternative to other snacks. They are “naturally cholesterol-free, trans-fat free, rich in protein (one ounce contains 7 grams of protein, and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter contain 8 grams of protein), contain a myriad of vitamins and minerals, and are rich in heart-healthy unsaturated fat (and low in unhealthy saturated fat).”
These are just a few foods that are overlooked in the healthy department. Some other foods to consider are cauliflower, frozen vegetables, instant oats, canned tomatoes, and orange juice.
